<\/p>\n

The\u00a0second General Assembly<\/span>\u00a0of the FrontAg Nexus project was successfully held from September 30 to October 3, 2024, at the Ayass Hotel in Amman. This important meeting, hosted by the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC), brought together the consortium and leading experts in sustainable agriculture from various sectors to review advancements and strategies for the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event started with an opening speech by Dr. Luna Al-Hadidi on behalf of Dr. Khaled Abu-Hammour, Director General of NARC. Project coordinator, Prof. Gertrud Buchenrieder, alongside work package leaders, led sessions that showcased\u00a0recent progress\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>addressed challenges\u00a0<\/span>in integrating cutting-edge agricultural techniques that conserve water and promote sustainability in arid regions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Assembly featured in-depth presentations on the socio-economic benefits of new agricultural technologies<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>successful strategies for infomation dissemination<\/span>, and effective\u00a0<\/span>project management techniques<\/span>. A significant focus was placed on the project\u2019s <\/span>demonstration cases\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and the <\/span>involvement of innovation actors<\/span><\/span>, stressing the crucial role of frontier agricultural practices in enhancing farm productivity and sustainability.<\/span><\/p>\n

Attendees also toured NARC\u2019s demonstration site and the farm of an innovation actor, observing the application of water-saving technologies in real-world agricultural settings, and in particular the under-construction\u00a0hydroponics and aquaponics systems\u00a0<\/span>at NARC. This visit highlighted the project’s practical impact and its commitment to applying research findings to improve the WEFE Nexus alongside the farming livelihoods.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

\u201cWe have already begun to see meaningful impact in our demonstration case sites, which range from Italy, Morocco, Tunisia, T\u00fcrkiye, and Jordan. We are showcasing in these demonstration case sites innovative FrontAg Nexus solutions\/innovations, like hydroponics, aquaponics and insect farming. These efforts are not only enhancing food and nutrition security, but hopefully also improving the livelihoods of the farmers involved in the Mediterranean region and, of course also in Jordan, where farmers are particularly vulnerable to climate change.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0highlighted our Project Coordinator Prof. Gertrud Buchenrieder.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Initiated in May 2023, FrontAg Nexus, supported by the EU\u2019s PRIMA program, tackles climate change and food insecurity in the Mediterranean.
