Beyond the Demonstration Sites: Sharing the Knowledge of FrontAg Nexus

What can we learn from testing new ways to grow food with fewer resources? And how can those lessons reach farmers, researchers and communities facing similar challenges elsewhere?

These questions have been central to FrontAg Nexus, a PRIMA-supported research and innovation project approaching the end of its 42-month journey in October 2026.

Bringing together 10 partners from eight countries, the project explored how climate-smart and water-saving agricultural technologies could help address some of the Mediterranean region’s most pressing challenges, from water scarcity and climate change to food insecurity.

Exploring New Approaches to Mediterranean Agriculture

Across six Mediterranean countries, FrontAg Nexus brought agricultural innovation into real-world settings through demonstration cases exploring hydroponics, aquaponics, insect farming, vertical farming and the integration of renewable energy into food production.

From aquaponics systems in Jordan to solar-powered hydroponic cultivation in Morocco, these activities offered opportunities to examine how different technologies could be adapted to local conditions and resource constraints.

The project also looked beyond the technologies themselves, exploring the socio-economic and policy dimensions of sustainable agriculture and the connections between water, energy, food and ecosystems.

Together, these activities generated experiences and research that can inform future efforts to make Mediterranean agriculture more resilient and resource-efficient.

Making Research Accessible Beyond the Consortium

For reframe.food, an important part of FrontAg Nexus has been ensuring that the knowledge generated through the project reaches audiences beyond the research community.

As the partner leading communication, dissemination and strategic stakeholder engagement, we have supported the project’s visibility, developed its communication identity and contributed to sharing its activities and results with different audiences.

A central part of this work has been the development of the FrontAg Nexus Knowledge Hub, a digital platform bringing together demonstration cases, research publications, learning resources and other project-related information.

Alongside the Knowledge Hub, the project’s Demonstration Case Catalogue presents the agricultural technologies explored across the Mediterranean, helping readers understand what is being tested, why it matters and who could benefit.

These resources help connect research with the people and organisations that may be able to build on it.

Looking Ahead

As FrontAg Nexus approaches completion, its value extends beyond the activities carried out during the project. The experiences documented, resources developed and connections established offer opportunities for continued knowledge exchange and future collaboration.

For reframe.food, this reflects an important part of our work in European research and innovation: helping valuable knowledge move beyond individual projects and become accessible to the people who can use it.

We are pleased to have contributed to this Mediterranean collaboration and look forward to seeing how its knowledge and experiences can support further work towards more sustainable agricultural systems.
